Dance Away Those Woes

Hello, you!

I’ll be honest with you, I’m not feeling my best at the minute, I’m going through a bit of a shitty patch, but I’m still trying to find little snippets of joy every day. I was talking to my oldest friend, Rose, about how rubbish I’m feeling at the moment – when I said I was feeling rough, her reply was ‘DANCE AWAY THOSE WOES!’

I’ve been meaning to write a post about the art of The Humble Living Room Dance Party and Rose saying that has pushed me to do it. If you don’t like dancing, that’s fine, this probably won’t apply to you… But if you DO, and you’re not feeling great mentally or if you’re just having a crap day, for the love of God, GET UP AND DANCE. I can tell you now, you more than likely won’t feel like it, the thought of moving with enthusiasm and energy might make you wince, but do it. Even if it’s just for one song. That song might only last three minutes – you could do it while you’re brushing your teeth.

You see, I was raised in a family that has always encouraged me to get up and get out there – the same goes for when any of us aren’t feeling mentally great. I’ve learnt the art of putting on happy music and dancing around while I’m getting ready, and let me tell you, it always makes me feel a bit better, even if it’s just a TINY bit. I won’t lie and say I’m always up for it, a lot of the time I’m not but I force myself to do it anyway.

dance

You can do it ANYWHERE – sometimes I’ll dance with my mum in the kitchen, sometimes in my room, one time I danced with my best friend, Leila, on the landing, she fell over but I didn’t realise and thought she was doing ‘spontaneous floor work’, needless to say, it was a bloody good laugh.

I’ve put some songs in a playlist below – these songs ALWAYS make me want to get up and dance, even when I’m feeling my worst. Thirteen year old me, who renounced pop music and thought listening to Bob Dylan made you cool, would absolutely despair, but you can’t dance around your house to ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ or any other deep music for that matter so I will gladly admit I LIKE THESE SONGS. Make sure you follow me on Spotify – LifeofLittleThings!

Go on, get the blood racing through your veins, get up and dance – for one song, at least. You can do it. You never know, it might help.

Stacks of love,

Sophie
