Everyday Champion: The Happy Chappo

Hello, you! When I started blogging, I wanted to try to use my space to highlight the amazing, everyday people who are doing wonderful and positive things. This week, I want to introduce you to The Happy Chappo. The Happy Chappo is a small business that produces unique and funky art that encourages people to be themselves – Steven (The Original Chappo) is non-binary and their work shines with the message ‘it’s cool to be different’! Their instagram is a zesty place whilst also being filled with honest posts about difficulties with mental and physical health. Steven inspires me on a regular basis and deserves more recognition – I wanted to introduce you to them so they can shine some light onto your life too! Here’s what they had to say… ✦ Basic Chappo info:  Hello, my name is Steven! I’m a Non-Binary illustrator living in the countryside in West Yorkshire. I have 4 cats and one of them is named after my favourite biscuit (Figgs).   Origins of The Happy Chappo: My nanna used to buy me those big, colouring in cards where all the black was made of felt – you  couldn’t go outside the lines and you… View Post

A Daily Dose of Perspective

Hello, you!   At the minute, I’m really struggling with post-traumatic stress from my surgeries and other things that have happened to me over the past few years. One of the things I’m struggling most with is how agitated I am, if I get even slightly bored, it’s like I’m taken over by ‘the rage’ so I’m trying to keep my mind busy. Normally, while I’m driving I whack on some music and have a good drive, singing along and probably looking like a bit of a tit to other drivers passing by. The other night though, I was too hypersensitive to listen to music (thanks, Asperger’s) so decided to listen to a podcast on the way over to my boyfriend’s house. I feel I must mention that podcasts make me feel very cultured and intellectual, making productive use of my drive time to learn something – check me. 5 points to Sophie. The drive to Ryan’s is pretty short so I clicked on the shortest one I could find and it was a TED Talk by Benjamin Grant called ‘What it Feels Like to See Earth From Space’ – I love stuff like this. I’ve always had this thing… View Post

Emily Coxhead & The Happy Newspaper

Hello, you! We need to talk about the wonderful lady and incredible designer/ funky artist that is EMILY COXHEAD! If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see that I repost a lot of Emily’s work because it’s all so cheery – her slogan is ‘sprinkling a tiny bit of happiness all over the planet’ and she definitely does that.   This is Emily – I’ve noticed she is always dressed like a rainbow and I am CHEERING for it.   Emily is the creator of The Happy Newspaper, a newspaper dedicated to sharing loads of the sparkly, GOOD news we rarely hear about on TV – from every day heroes to Sri Lanka being declared Malaria free; just bloody wonderful stuff. The newspaper first started in December 2015 when she opened a Kickstarter campaign to helped fund it and reached her target within two days, thanks to the generosity of 73 lovely people. At the minute, Emily designs, edits and packages the WHOLE thing herself from her tiny office at home in North West England – what a task. Perhaps one of the most incredible things about The Happy Newspaper is that since it started, it has been read by over… View Post
