For the Love of Gigs

Hello, you!   I don’t know whether you do too, but I bloody love gigs. Music runs in my family (I can hear my best friend saying the ‘no one runs in your family’ joke right now) and I’ve grown up surrounded by it so gigs hold a lot of value for me – some people prioritise having extravagant possessions, but for me, life is all about experiences. It all started at the youthful age of 9 where I attended my first concert – wait for it… Pussycat Dolls and Rihanna on their joint tour. I remember being rather amused when they kept filming Rihanna’s bum to put on the big screens – thinking about it now, it was quite an odd thing to do given that the majority of the audience would probably have been female and whilst we can all appreciate a good GIRL CRUSH, it wasn’t really what we went to see. Everyday Champion: Lily Deans

Hello, you!   We need to talk about my gorgeous friend, Lily… An absolute champion who has come through so much. On the 2nd August 2016, Lily’s wonderful dad, Mick Deans, passed away after a valiant battle with a brain tumour. I met Lily that September and we became good pals, she has a heart of solid gold and she’s a brilliant laugh – a highlight of mine was us sitting mid-lecture, desperately refreshing ticket websites to get Take That tickets for our mum’s before they sold out. However, it soon became clear that she wasn’t having the time of her life at uni, as so many people were, but was actually having a really shitty one. Lily messaged me one day to say she’d decided to go home for a bit to sort her head out, I drove her to the station and that was that – she didn’t come back to uni. Here’s the thing though, Lily has watched her dad suffer with his illness, she’s struggled alongside her Mum, Louise, and brother, Harry, with their loss, had a really bloody rough time at uni and she’s STILL STANDING.
