Happy Notes

Hello, you!   Hope you’re well, please do excuse my month long absence – clearly my ‘twice weekly’ posting schedule is just not something I roll with, ALAS, here I am – surprise! Over the last month, I have developed the habit of writing happy notes and leaving them in places, like books, for people to find. If you don’t know what a happy note is, essentially all it is is a bit of paper/post-it note/you name it, with a positive message written on it. I left these notes around a couple of times when I was sixteen but then the misery of life got the better of me and there was no more joy to spread, STOP YOUR TEARS, I’M KIDDING – I don’t know why I stopped doing it, to be honest, so here I am, back at it again, aged 21.   You may have seen these on Instagram   I regularly get into the habit of collecting things for a ‘creative project’… Sometimes I won’t even have a project, I’ll just see something and think ‘this could be so cool for something one day’ – I blame my mum and her many creative ventures. Get Well Soon

Hello, you!   Those of you who follow me on Instagram or Twitter may know that I’ve been really unwell again – the pain I experienced in April/May time returned. This time, it clearly couldn’t be my appendix (as originally thought) as they had already removed it earlier this year – you can read about this here.  Over summer, I had twinges of the original pain – it was so distinctive – I assumed, and desperately hoped, that it was just scarring from the operation to remove my appendix. In early September, the pain started becoming more frequent, with a couple of twinges happening per day instead of over a couple of weeks – I went back to the doctor and he said to see how I went, book an appointment for three weeks time and review it then. Little did I know, in the space of those three weeks, I’d have had two more appointments with a new consultant AND a surgery. On the 15th September, my pain became so unbearable that I had to go to A&E, they refused to discharge me given how much morphine I needed so I stayed in for a couple of nights –… View Post

Dance Away Those Woes

Hello, you!   I’ll be honest with you, I’m not feeling my best at the minute, I’m going through a bit of a shitty patch, but I’m still trying to find little snippets of joy every day. I was talking to my oldest friend, Rose, about how rubbish I’m feeling at the moment – when I said I was feeling rough, her reply was ‘DANCE AWAY THOSE WOES!’ I’ve been meaning to write a post about the art of The Humble Living Room Dance Party and Rose saying that has pushed me to do it. If you don’t like dancing, that’s fine, this probably won’t apply to you… But if you DO, and you’re not feeling great mentally or if you’re just having a crap day, for the love of God, GET UP AND DANCE. I can tell you now, you more than likely won’t feel like it, the thought of moving with enthusiasm and energy might make you wince, but do it. Even if it’s just for one song. That song might only last three minutes – you could do it while you’re brushing your teeth. You see, I was raised in a family that has always encouraged me… View Post

We need to talk about… Soul Pancake

Hello, you! We need to talk about Soul Pancake. Soul Pancake create the most life affirming and uplifting content that never fails to cheer me up. Having been a subscriber to their YouTube channel for a good few years now, their videos always bring a smile to my face – no matter how rubbish I might be feeling. Their video ‘Take a Seat, Make a Friend’ is quite possibly my favourite thing on the internet. They invite strangers into a ball-pit (because why should it only be children that get the fun?) and ask them to talk about particular topics. It’s no good me explaining it, watch the video for yourself… Just bloody lovely, heartwarming stuff, right? The most important thing for me about Soul Pancake is how they tackle big issues and don’t shy away from them. Right now, they’re doing a series of videos called ‘How You See Me’ where people describe their experience of having a disability, coming from an Asian background and being a member of the LGBTQ community, to name only a few! Then, there is the legend that is, Kid President. Honestly, this kid has sass levels that could rival Beyonce’s. In the video ‘A Pep… View Post
