Birthday Season is Upon me | AD

Hello, you! I don’t know about your wonderful self, but I just LOVE giving gifts – seriously, I’ll find any excuse to buy someone a present and don’t even get me started on wrapping paper and ribbon, it’s an unhealthy obsession. Now, I’m not going to start referring to myself as the Queen of Gift Giving (ha ha ha, I don’t do that, that would be sad…) but I am bloody good at finding a great present. Birthday season is upon me… I know people are born all year round but many people who are special to me have clustered birthdays in Feb-March and again in July-August – these my busiest months on the gift giving front! I realise I’m beginning to make myself sound a bit like Santa… If I carry on consuming cheeseburgers at this rate, I may end up a similar size. I love buying presents that can be sentimental and kept for a long time – I think it’s so lovely to have things to look back on, I still have the bracelet my parents bought me for my 16th birthday. One website that sells great jewellery is Uncommon Goods – lots of their jewellery has… View Post

Tales of Two Adventures

HELLO, YOU! I feel we needed a capitalised greeting given it’s been such a bloody long time since I posted anything on here. I’ve been having a FAB summer, with lots of adventures, which has been so lovely after all the shitty illness and surgery stuff – it’s been busy! After my last blog post, I went to Cuba; I’ve wanted to go there since I was about sixteen so I felt VERY lucky to finally have the opportunity to. My favourite thing about the place was unquestionably the people – as Cuba is such a poor country, lots of the citizens don’t have a lot of money but they have SO much spirit. We spoke to lots of staff at the hotel, all of whom had to travel two hours every day to get to and from work, many worked two jobs and had very limited time off because they wanted to make as much money for their family as possible. A tour guide told me that doctors there make around $35 (USD) per MONTH, which is about £26. Everything is mad expensive out there because almost everything has to be imported, so the citizens can’t really afford much.… View Post

Spectacular Sunsets

Hello, you! When I was a little girl, my mum always used to say to me ‘Wow, Sophie! Look at the sky!’ As a young child, I was fascinated by its colours, then I grew up, and at around age thirteen (when you think your parents are the most mortifying thing on earth) thought it was ‘silly’ and ‘uncool’ to be amazed by spectacular sunsets… Then I grew up a bit more and BECAME OBSESSED. It’s no exaggeration to use the word ‘obsessed’, I’m lucky enough to have a west facing room and can regularly be heard shouting ‘Mum! Look at the sunset over the back of the neighbour’s house!’ It’s got to the point where my best friend genuinely once said ‘bloody hell, Soph, are you taking another photo of the sky?’ So, yes… Needless to say, I’m a big fan. The thing is, when I was ill, I never took the time to appreciate the sheer beauty of a great sunset, because that sort of thing just doesn’t cross your mind when you’re running on about 45 minutes sleep. Now, I make a conscious effort to appreciate the sky on fire.  Now, I’m not going to start rocking a… View Post
